2024 King Charles I Commemoration

The annual march in commemoration of King Charles I was held by The King’s Army of the English Civil War Society on 28th January 2024, the last Sunday in January (pictures from 2022 are here).

Wreath At The Statue

Before the main parade, a small detachment of The King’s Army attached a wreath at 10:00 to King Charles I’s statue. The statue looks down Whitehall from Trafalgar Square to the Banqueting House where King Charles I was executed on 30th January 1649.

The March

The parade formed up in The Mall and set off at 11:30 led by five horses. The foot soldiers of the army followed on foot led by cannon, hundreds of re-enactors dress in historic clothing with most carrying weapons of the time.

The Wreath Laying

Once the army had formed up on Horse Guards Parade, a small detachment went through to the Banqueting House in Whitehall to attach a wreath to the railings of the building at which King Charles I was executed outside of.
