Dr Johnson’s House

Doctor Johnson is loved by children everywhere for writing the first dictionary which led to the creation of the spelling test (the bit about children might not be true). There had been attempts at writing a dictionary before, but Dr Johnson’s was the most scholarly effort.

On the third floor of Dr Johnson’s House, is his original desk and chair

Hodge The Cat

A statue of Dr Johnson’s cat is at the opposite end of Johnson’s Court, sculpted sitting on his master’s dictionary.
