60007 “Sir Nigel Gresley” at Finsbury Park

At 08:03 on Saturday 2nd March 2024, LNER A4 4-6-2 60007 “Sir Nigel Gresley” stormed through Finsbury Park railway station in North London. The steam engine was taking The Steam Dreams Rail Company special from London Kings Cross to York and back.

This locomotive is the same type as “Mallard” which, in 1938, travelled briefly at 126mph to set the world speed record for a steam train. Mallard tried a bit too hard that day and had to be taken off the train as it was about to fall apart. The record has never been broken.
