Merchant Navy Day at Tower Hill, London
3rd September each year is Merchant Navy Day chosen because the first major Allied casualty of World War Two was the Athenia, sunk with the loss of 117 passengers and crew within hours of hostilities being declared on 3rd September 1939.
The high level pictures were taken from the balcony of the Citizen M Hotel’s CloudM bar, who kindly allowed me access before the bar opened.
