U-27 NE Brasil’s 2024 London Visit
Each year around October the Brazilian Navy (Marinha do Brasil) training ship U-27 “NE Brasil” visits London.
After passing through Tower Bridge, “Brasil” tied up alongside the World War Two museum ship “HMS Belfast”.
The pictures on this page show U-27 NE Brasil being guided by tugs through Tower Bridge and down the River Thames towards the North Sea.
When leaving the Pool of London (the area between Tower Bridge and London Bridge), larger ships are usually taken backwards down to Wapping Reach.
At Wapping Reach, 1.5 miles down the River Thames by Rotherhithe, the river widens enough for even the largest ships to be turned around. Once facing downriver, ships slip their tugs and head to the Thames Estuary under their own power.
