Royal Navy P282 HMS Severn Visits London

On Saturday 11th September 2021, the River Class ship HMS Severn was recommissioned into the Royal Navy. The ceremony happened whilst moored alongside the museum ship HMS Belfast. This was the first reactivation of a ship stored by the Royal Navy since the Falklands Conflict in 1982.

The photographs show the ship sailing out of London following the ceremony as the newest member of the Royal Navy.

The camouflage scheme worn by the ship is called “Western Approaches” which was a dazzle camouflage worn by the Royal Navy ships sent into the Western Atlantic during World War Two.

A previous HMS Severn was one of those ships sent to hunt German U-boat submarines which were sinking merchant ships bringing supplies across the Atlantic to the UK.
