2021 Cart Marking

One of the City of London’s many ceremonies is “Cart Marking”.

Vehicle which are allowed to ply for trade within the City’s walls have a registration number branded using a hot iron on to a wooden plaque specially fitted for the event.

Where once it was a way of stopping too many vehicles working on the roads of the City, today it is carried on as a fun annual event for charity featuring a kaleidoscope of vehicles, old and new.

The ceremony takes place in Guildhall Yard in the City of London.
